“Aosai Cup” 2008National Triathlon Championships
2008 “Aosai Cup” National Triathlon Championships, organized by Cycling and Fencing Sports Administration Center of General Administration of Sports of China, China Triathlon Sports Association, Shandong Sports Bureau, Weihai Government, undertaken by Weihai Sports Bureau and co-organized by Weihai Aosai Shaopping Mall, Qingdao Coca-Cola Beverage Co ., Ltd, Weihai branch of China Mobile and Yunhai Tea, were held on the bathing beach of hi-tech development zone in Weihai on September 6th and 7th. 350 athletes and over 300 guides, coaches, officials, judges and volunteers from 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions took part in the game, which enjoyed 50,000 spectators. Xu Haifeng, deputy director of Cycling and Fencing Sports Administration Center and local government officials such as Liu Yutang, Ma Shihe and Dong Tianxiang attended the opening ceremony. Over 20 journalists from 14 news media like Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, China Sports Daily, Shandong TV News, Dazhong Daily, Qilu Evening News, Shandong TV and presses in Weihai City and Huancui District covered this event.
“Nanjing Cup” Triathlon Series of the 11th Sports Meeting of the People's Republic of China in 2009
“Nanjing Cup” Triathlon Series of the 11th Sports Meeting of the People's Republic of China was held at the Half-moon Bay on October 14th and 15th, 2009. 71 athletes of 15 delegations across the country took part in the Event. Shandong’s Wangyi won the women’s race.
2010 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series
2010 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series was held at Half-moon Bay，the main venue, on the 25th and 26th of September, 2010. The event involves three courses. The swim course started from and ended at the west bank of Half-moon Bay Bathing Beach with 1.5km per lap. The bike course and run course started from the transition area of main venue. The former was done along Huanhai road, Dalian Road, Wenhua Road, Fushan Road, AC3 Road, Juhuading Road and Banyuewan Tunnel, with a one-way distance of 40km. The latter was done in the form of shuttle run along Banyue Road, Dongshan Road and the north end of Haiyuan Park with 5km per section. The long distance race was held on the 25th with a 3km swim, 80km bike and 20km run race. The short distance race was held on the 26th with a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run race. The event was hosted by Administration Center of Cycling and Fencing of the General Administration of Sport of China, China Triathlon Sports Association, Shandong Bureau of Sports and the People’s Government of Weihai Municipality, and was undertaken by ISEC and Weihai Sports Federation. A total of 388 athletes from 24 countries and regions took part in the event, including 3 world champions, 2 runners-up and 3 top ten athletes from professional groups, as well as 1 paratriathlon world champion in previous events.
2011 “Huaxia City Cup” Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series
2011 “Huaxia City Cup” Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series, comprised of International Triathlon Inter-Continental Cup, National Triathlon Championship Cup Series and Long Distance Triathlon World Cup Series, was held on Half-moon Bay Bathing Beach of Weihai on June 11th and 12th, 2011, an exclusive competition area for China Triathlon Sports Association. 700 athletes from 25 countries and regions participated in the game.
Weihai Triathlon Sports Association was established in 2011.

Triathlon Gains Popularity with Weihai People
A ceremony was held on the square in front of the government buildings on May 15th, celebrating the approach of the 2011 Weihai International Triathlon and the establishment of Weihai Triathlon Sports Association. It was commemorated in the form of people riding bicycles along the track, starting from the square to Juhuading Road on the east, then to the triathlon course and finally back to the Door to Happiness, with a whole course of nearly 25 kilometers and 500 participants.
Weihai was rated as the Best Competition Area by China Triathlon Sports Association in 2011.
2012 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Series
2012 Weihai Long Distance Triathlon World Cup was held from September 22 to 23 on the main competition area of Half-moon Bay, an exclusive venue for China Triathlon Sports Association. A total of 892 athletes from 22 countries and regions participated in the event. A promo titled Running across Weihai was produced to expand the influence of the game. It was the first time for short distance amateur group and aquathlon group to be added to the list of the game in Weihai. This international game enjoys the biggest scale, largest number of participants and strongest social influence.
Triathlon Going into Schools in 2012
An activity named Triathlon Going into Schools ran from July 30th to August 11th in Weihai, one of the first 3 pilot cities in China. Thirty triathlon lovers from 6 primary and secondary schools and Shandong University at Weihai received 13-day-long training.
Weihai was once again crowned the best competition area by China Triathlon Sports Association in 2012.
Weihai was chosen by International Triathlon Union as the host city of the 2014 long distance triathlon championships on May 30th,2012.
2013 Weihai ITU Long Distance Triathlon Series
2013 Jiahua · Fortune Plaza Cup Weihai Long Distance Triathlon Series and Shandong Triathlon Championships were held at Half-moon Bay from September 28 to 29. The event was hosted by Cycling and Fencing Sports Management Center of General Administration of Sport of China, China Triathlon Sports Association, Sports Bureau of Shandong and Weihai Municipal Government, and was undertaken by Swimming Sport Administration Center of Shandong and Sports Bureau of Weihai. The event included ITU World Cup Series，ITU Point Race for Amateurs and ITU Invitational Tournament for Students. The game is comprised of 8 groups，namely, long distance elite group, long distance age group, long distance relay group, whole journey age group, half journey age group, duathlon group, aquathlon group and experience group, and 45 teams with 1,107 participants from 77 teams of 13 countries, such as Australia, France, Italy and South Africa, hitting a record high in the number of participants in domestic triathlons.
An experience game for Weihai municipal government organs and Triathlon Championships for Youth in Shandong were also held on September 27, with 111 adult participants from the government organs and 65 young participants in Shandong respectively.
Weihai took over the banner of 2014 Weihai Long distance Triathlon World Championships from Belfort, France.
